Photographic Larks and Owls

Early last Saturday, Ben, Vince and I found ourselves in Richmond Park. The ground was thick with frost and the sun was just beginning to poke above the tree line as we started snapping away.

Ben took great interest in the frosted fauna, getting out his tripod and Macro lens to capture the delicate patterns of ice crystals on ferns and fences (see here). I took a broader approach, enjoying the patterns of light and shadow made by the trees and streams.

After several hours of walking around the park we headed off to central London, but not before a sausage or bacon sandwich.  Hungry business capturing light.

We arrived at Portobello market just before lunch. The place was thronged with shoppers and it was a little perturbing. All three of us struggled to find inspiration in the masses. The light had flattened as the clouds had come in. The tall surrounding buildings screened the remaining light. Form and colour became the strongest elements. There were some eclectic objects and people, but just not enough space to capture them. I was pleased with a shot of some entertaining old metal adverts that had been pinned together – have a look!. They reminded me of fish scales. It would be a very curious catch.

After abandoning the market to the crowds, we headed East to Canary Wharf for lunch. By now it was 3pm and Vince had been up far longer than was reasonable for a Saturday. We indulged in some gourmet burgers and carried on down the isle of dogs to Greenwich, via the foot tunnel.

Our last location of the day was at the top of Greenwich Park, looking back at the modern megaliths of Canary Wharf. Unfortunately, light was no longer on the side of day-tripping photographers and the late afternoon – evening sunset was disappointing.  And as the loud speaker declared the park shut, tiredness crept into our legs. It had been a long day.

On reflection, though we may not have taken many photos that we were happy with, we learnt a lot about how we each shoot and how to go about organising such a day.

It was clear that each of us was looking for something different. Ben and I are looking for more graphic images with form, colour and light, whilst Vince is inspired by stories and capturing human elements . In our last meeting, we all agreed that next time we should slow down, do less, but work harder at getting each photo. We will certainly visit only one or two locations in a day.

I will update the blog as we add more of the photos from the shoot to the website.

And to just to keep you watching…look out soon for a whole new website design…beyond photium!

inc. wallpapers – get yours now!

A fantastic wallpaper for you to download from incphoto.com

You should go to www.incphoto.com now and download one of our fantastic new wallpapers for your desktop. We are going to be changing these every month.

This month the images are all supplied by Vince Wong and they are great shots. Two are from his inspirational photo journey through New York City that can be found under inc. travel on the home page. Check out the rest of the photos in the shoot. My particular favourite is the taxis streaming through in the darkness.

I definitely want that on my wall! Which one do you want?

We are planning an inc. shoot this weekend to get gigabytes of juicy RAWs. Keep checking www.incphoto.com for updates of these new works or follow us on twitter or facebook (see the links section on the right there?) .

Objects of desire.

The three of us at inc. photo have spent much time discussing what we want to produce. Glorious, beautiful photos is only the beginning. When you buy something to hang on your wall, you buy a finished article. When choosing it you have not only considered the image itself but the way its framed, how it will look on a wall, and perhaps even the particular space in your home where you want to put it. We have been thinking about this too. We want to take great pictures and make desirable objects to put in your home.

You detract from a photo with a badly chosen and ill- fitted frame, but with a well chosen mount and frame can change the way you look at a photo, adding to its artistic qualities. The “art” of a painting isnt just the finished result, but the techniques and thought process used to create the object hanging on the wall. This is the philosophy we intend to approach our work. We will take the time to select mounts and frames, thinking about the particular aspect ratios that work well with the individual images.

We will bring you the previews of these finished articles on the website so you can better make the choice about which inc. object will look great in your space. Please let us know what you think and if you want something different to fit your home than drop us a line at incphoto@gmail.com.

Lets talk about inc.

The name inc. photography came about after some discussion amongst Ben, Vince and myself. We wanted to find something that gave a feel for the collective nature of our venture and was also short and snappy. The idea of “inc.” not only came from incorporated but also inclusive. We are going to work together, taking on each others ideas and comments, learning from each other. Nothing and no one will be left out. We also wanted our images and products to include people into photography – that is for their to be something for everyone.

The shortness and flexibity of “inc.” also seemed quite fun and inspired us to think creatively! It seemed to stick with us and we hope it sticks with you.

We will be continuing to develop the brand and its identity. We are still in the early days and have much to learn about this business of capturing light on to pixels then paper..or canvas…or who knows what and sending it to you. Keep reading the blog and follow us in our journey! We hope you feel inc.

Welcome to inc. photography

Welcome to the blog of inc. photography, an exciting venture by three friends, Ben, Vincent and myself, James. As individuals we have been keen on photography since our teenage years, but in the last year we have begun a journey to bring our work into the public domain and with that inc. photography was born.

We have spent many hours discussing photography, going on shoots with each other and processing images on our computers. We were excited by the images we were creating but the final stage was missing. We had hundreds of images on hard drives, but nothing real, nothing to feel with our hands. This is perhaps a problem with digital photography, the finished article is intangible.

Through this blog we will describe our journey with inc. photo and development as photographers. We will discuss the developments on the website and our products. There will also be post on our field trips and shoots, the development of the techniques we use and comments on the equipment we have. Please feel free to leave your comments!

So please visit www.incphoto.co.uk, follow us on twitter www.twitter.com/incphoto   or find us on facebook!

Look forward to hearing from you.
